NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Sophomore Brad Benjamin fired a 2-over-par 74 to tie for 17th. Meanwhile, junior Ian Rochester and freshman Mark Trow remain on the cusp of the top-20 after recording identical 3-over-par 75's to lead the University of Memphis men's golf team to eighth place after one round at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate.

The Tigers turned in a combined team score of 301, 13 strokes over par. The Tigers remain one stroke ahead of ninth-place Furman, one stroke behind sixth-place squads Middle Tennessee State and Arkansas State, three strokes behind fifth-place North Florida, and 11 strokes in back of co-leaders Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.

Benjamin had the best day among the Tigers. The sophomore showed consistency on the day, recording 37 on the front and back nines. His 2-over-par 74 is six strokes behind tournament leader Mitchell Brock of UT-Chattanooga.

Rochester and Trow are tied for 27th place after day one. However, their totals of 75 (38-37) remain just on shot in back of the top-20.

Freshman Kyle Peterman got off to a rough start on the front, recording a 40. However, the Sherman, Ill., native quickly regained his composure and turned in a 1-over-par 37 on the back nine for a first day total of 77 and a share of 44th place.

Like Peterman, junior Kyle Ritchie had problems on Sunday's front nine before turning things around on the back. The Tulane transfer turned in a 42 on the front, but was able to make up some ground on the back nine where he carded a 1-over-par 37.

The Mason Rudolph Invitational will continue with 18 holes of play on Monday and Tuesday. Monday's second round is set to begin at 8:00 a.m. central time at the Ironhorse Course in Nashville.
