Tigers Finish T8 in Final Event of Fall

PEBBLE BEACH, Cali.—Jack Belote posted a final round even par 72 to lead the University of Memphis men’s golf team to a T8 finish at the St. Mary’s College Invitational. Belote’s three round total of 223 (76-75-72) was good for a T21 individual finish at the par-72, 6,863 yard Poppy Hills Golf Course. Jonathan Fly turned in his second consecutive 76 to post a three round score of 226 (74-76-76) and finish in a tie for 35th. Carlson Cox fired rounds of 75-75-77 to finish T37. Lexus Keoninh (78-73-81) and Steve Lee (76-83-77) finished in T65 and T77, respectively. Memphis posted team scores of 301-299-301 (902) to finish tied for eighth with Saint Mary’s. Nevada captured to the team title with scores of 291-290-288 (869). Oregon State finished four strokes back with rounds of 287-293-293 (873). San Deigo (875/287-294-294), Denver (881/285-298-298), and UC Irvine (885/296-296-293) round out the top five. Domingo Jojola of San Francisco carded rounds of 71-69-69 to win the individual title for the second consecutive year. Diego Velasquez of Oregon State finished three strokes back in second with scores of 70-70-72. Espen Kofstad of Denver, the first round leader, finished third with rounds of 67-74-73. The St. Mary’s College Invitational marked the end of the fall portion of the schedule for the Tigers. Memphis returns to action February 21 when they compete in the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate hosted by South Alabama.
