First Palmer Cup Rankings of Spring Ranks Lars van Meijel No. 9 on Team Europe

March 5, 2014

NORMAN, Okla. – The first Palmer Cup Rankings were released Wednesday morning, with freshman standout Lars Van Meijel ranking No. 9 for Team Europe.

Van Meijel is the only freshman ranked in the top-15 and one of three in the top-25. Only one underclassman ranks ahead of van Meijel, with sophomore Max Rottluff of Arizona State ranked No. 1.

The Palmer Cup Ranking used Golfstat’s NCAA Player Ranking as a base, then awards bonus points for wins and high finishes and a negative bonus for poor finishes. The ranking also considers team strength of schedule. The top six golfers in the ranking from both the United States and Europe shall be among the individuals selected to compete in the Palmer Cup at Walton Heath Golf Club June 26-28.

The next Palmer Cup ranking will be released March 19.

The Tigers will continue their spring schedule Monday, March 10 when they start action at the Auburn Tiger Shootout in Auburn, Ala.
