Tigers in Seventh at Louisiana Classics

The University of Memphis men's golf team is in seventh place after two rounds of play at the Louisiana Classics. The tournament is being held at the 7,141 yard, par 72 Oakbourne Country Club, with the University of Louisiana-Lafayette serving as the host school.
Brandon Bunn fired two opening 72's to lead the Tigers. He is currently in a tie for 13th place. Jack Belote, who is making his spring debut, posted rounds of 74-71 to fall in a tie for 17th. Brad Benjamin and Jordan Payne also turned in second round 71's to post totals of 146 and 148.The two are in 26th and 39th place, respectively. Mark Trow carded rounds of 76-80 and is in 68th.
The Tigers posted a team-total of 582 (297-285) and are in seventh place, only seven back from the top-three.
This is the first tournament sine the Memphis Intercollegiate that the Tigers have had more than one player in the top-20 after two rounds. Memphis went on to finish second in that event, their highest finish of the season.
The University of New Orleans fired team totals of 288-281 to grab the lead in the team competition. Louisiana Lafayette was leading after one round, but struggled to a total of 292 in the afternoon round to fall to second place.
Cedric Scotto of Southeastern Louisiana leads in the individual competition, after carding opening rounds of 68-69. Walt Koebel of Kansas, Felipe Valesquez of UALR, and Devin Carrey of La-Lafayette are one stroke back.
The Tigers will finish up play at the Louisiana Classics tomorrow, March 10 with the playing of the third and final round.
