MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis men's golf team will travel to Laredo, Texas this week to participate in the Border Olympics hosted by the University of Houston. Memphis will participate in a 17-team field, where they enter the tournament looking to improve their 2nd place finish from last year.

Memphis' Keven Fortin-Simard was the medalist in the 2006 tournament and Memphis finished 2nd with a score of 860 (282-286-292). With a solid past at the Border Olympics, the Tigers are looking to finish on top. Head coach Grant Robbins is looking for an improvement from their 7th place performance at the Louisiana Classics last week.

The Tigers enter the tournament ranked 83rd. Of the teams competing, Lamar is the only team ranked in the top-10. Baylor, SMU and Vanderbilt come into the tournament ranked in the top-50. Notre Dame is ranked 56th entering this week. Houston, Memphis, Louisiana-Lafayette, Arkansas and South Alabama are ranked in the top-100.

Other teams competing in the tournament are Arkansas-Little Rock (206), North Texas (133), Rice (130), Texas-Arlington (113), Texas State (194), UTEP (146) and Washington State (106).

Baylor won the tournament last year, reporting a score of 855 (286-275-294). The tournament will take place March 16-17 at the Laredo Country Club. It will be a 54-hole tournament, which will take place in two days. Results will be available on the University of Houston Athletics website as www.UHCougars.com.
