Tiger Golf Set for Desert Shootout

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—The University of Memphis golf team travels to Goodyear, Ariz. to compete in the 2010 Desert Shootout Thursday through Saturday. The tournament is hosted by Denver University and will be held at the Palm Valley Golf Course (Par 71; 7,015 Yards). The Desert Shootout features a 17-team field, with eight teams currently ranked in Golfweek’s top 100: Boise State, BYU (#48), Denver, Eastern Michigan (#72), Iowa State (#80), Kansas, Kansas State (#59), Memphis, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, Pacific (#91), Southern Utah, Nebraska (#90), Utah, VCU (#58), Wichita State (#55), and Xavier. Memphis placed fifth in its last event, the Louisiana Classics. The Tigers posted solid team rounds of 289 in the first and last rounds, but struggled to a 16-over-par 304 in the second round. Steve Lee led Memphis, posting scores of 73-74-69 to tie his career-low finish of seventh. Jack Belote turned in rounds of 69-76-77 to finish in a tie for 28th position. In the 2009 Desert Shootout, Denver claimed victory with team scores of 271-277-281. Tulsa finished one stroke back in second with rounds of 275-281-274.
