April 17, 2008
IRVING, Texas - For the second consecutive season University of Memphis golfer Brad Benjamin has been named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team. Benjamin was selected last year's inaugural team as sophomore, and he was the only underclassman so honored by the conference office.
Benjamin boasts a 3.82 grade point average majoring in business finance. The junior has spent five semesters on the Dean's List and has been named to the Tiger 3.0 and Tiger Academic 30 each of the five semesters he has been in college.
The Rockford Ill., native has also been consistent on the course throughout his career. Benjamin is one only two Tigers to play in every round this spring and has collected two top-15 finishes. His best finish is a tie for fourth at the Rice Intercollegiate. As a freshman, he earned a spot on the 2006 C-USA All Tournament Team after placing third overall. His first career win came at the Palisades Collegiate Classic in the fall of 2007.
Benjamin is joined on the All-Academic Team by East Carolina's Tripp Brizendine and Markus Leandersson of East Carolina, Michael Buttacavoli of Rice, Brad Smith of UAB and UTEP's Zac Hildenbrand. Benjamin is the only repeat selection on the list, making him the Conference USA's first two-time recipient of the award.
