IRVING, Texas - University of Memphis junior golfer Grant Milner has been named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced Thursday morning.

Milner, one of six golfers selected to the team, earned the honor for the first time in his career. Memphis has now placed a golfer on the conference all-academic team for six of the last seven years after Brad Benjamin was a three-time selection (2007-09) and Jack Belote received the honor twice (2011-12).

A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Milner has maintained a 3.77 GPA in Journalism-News during his time at the U of M. He has been named to the Tiger 3.0 Club seven-straight semesters, had the highest GPA on the men's golf team for three semesters and is a six-time Dean's List recipient. Milner has also been selected to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and received the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal all three years of his career.

This season, Milner is second on the Memphis team in scoring average with a 74.1, and has had three top-10 finishes and four top-20 outings. In October 2012, he was named C-USA Men's Golfer of the Week following a win at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate and defeating eight top-100 players. Milner finished with a 10-under-par 206, which tied for fourth in school history for 54 holes.

To be eligible, student-athletes must hold a minimum 3.2 GPA and compete in at least 75 percent of their team's scheduled tournaments. The team is voted on by the league's sports information contacts for men's golf.

Milner and the Tigers will look to defend their conference title next week when they compete in the C-USA Championships, Apr. 21-23, in Texarkana, Ark., at the Texarkana Country Club.
