@MemphisMGolf Earns Regional Bid Fourth Consecutive Year
May 5, 2014
INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Memphis men’s golf team earned their fourth straight post season bid and 11th in program history and fifth under head coach Grant Robbins. The Tigers is the No. 10 seed in the Raleigh, N.C. regional
The Regional top-seed in Raleigh is ACC champion Georgia Tech, followed by Washington and Florida State. The rest of the field includes Texas A&M, Mercer, Kentucky, Texas Tech, Wake Forest, South Alabama, Minnesota, Rice and Bethune-Cookman. Mercer, Minnesota, Rice and Bethune-Cookman earned automatic bids with conference championships, while the other teams earned at-large bids.
“We’re really excited to make it back to the regionals for a fourth year in a row,” Robbins said. “I think Raleigh is a good draw for us. We’ve played on the course before, winning the NC State Invitational in the fall of 2011, so Cory [Gaylord] has played there. We’re familiar with a lot of the teams in the field, we were paired with Washington for 36-holes during our tournament in California, we’ve played against South Alabama, Mercer, Florida State, Kentucky and Wake Forest this year. I think if we play to the best of our abilities we can definitely advance.”
The regional will be played with 18-holes each day, starting Thursday, May 15 and going through Saturday, May 17. The five teams with the best scores at the end of the third round will advance to the NCAA Championship tournament hosted by Wichita State in Hutchinson, Kansas May 23-28.
