Men's Golf to Wrap up Season at Linger Longer Invitational
May 9, 2007 GREENSBORO, Ga. - The University of Memphis men's golf squad will complete its 2006-07 season by competing in the Linger Longer Invitational, hosted by Mercer University, beginning on Sunday. The Tigers are one of 15 teams competing in the tournament, which will be played on the Oconee Course of the Reynolds Plantation. The par-72, 7,393 yard course was designed by Rees Jones and was ranked No. 56 in "America's Best Top-100 Residential Golf Courses." The tournament, which tees off at 8 a.m., Sunday, features some of the top teams in the Southeast, including defending champion Georgia, which is the No. 1 ranked team in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. Eight of the 15 teams are in the Top 50 of the latest polls, including Georgia (1), Alabama (4), Louisville (18), Charlotte (20), the University of North Carolina (23), Florida State University (25), Georgia State University (27), Chattanooga (37), and Augusta State University (40). Rounding out the field will be host Mercer, as well as the Tigers and Georgia Southern, Kennesaw State, LSU and Mississippi State. Trevor Murphy of Charlotte is the defending tournament champion, after he defeated North Carolina's Martin Ureta in a two-hole playoff in 2006. The Tigers come in to the tournament on the heels of a seventh-place finish at the Conference USA tournament, where junior Ian Rochester tied for sixth overall with a 2-over-par 74.
