MEMPHIS, Tenn. –Former University of Memphis golf standout Jonathan Fly fired a 64 (-6) in the second round of the FedEx St. Jude Classic to climb more than 80 spots on the leaderboard and move inside the cut line early Friday afternoon.

"I shot 8-over yesterday," Fly said. "Just kind of didn't have my stuff, and today I did. So, it was a lot of fun out there."

Fly struggled to an opening round 78 on Thursday afternoon and found himself well on the outside of the cut line heading into Friday morning’s tee time. He started the round in spectacular fashion, holing out from the fairway for eagle on No. 1 en route to 1-under-par 34 on his first nine holes. Fly then turned up the heat on the back nine, making six birdies en route to a 30 on the final nine and 64 (-6) for the day. His 64 tied current leader JB Holmes for the lowest round of the tournament.

"Yesterday there were a lot of nerves, and making a 2 on 1 today kind of helped me settle into everything and kind of got a bad break off the tee," Fly said. "Dropped straight down, I had a 6-iron into 1 and ended up making it. Probably good way to start."

The 2011 Conference USA Championship medalist, Fly competed in 11 tournaments and held a team-best 72.16 scoring average. His low finish came at the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate, where he fired back-to-back rounds of 68 to earn medalist honors in the rain-shortened event. Fly also carded scores of 69-73-72 at the C-USA Championship en route to helping Memphis to the team title and a fifth-place individual showing. He also holds the single season scoring average of 71.9 set in 2010-11.

The FedEx St. Jude Classic continues tomorrow with the third round at TPC Southwind. For more information about the event, including scores and tee time information, please visit www.stjudeclassic.org
