MEMPHIS - Tiger golfers Jonathan Fly and Steve Lee will be representing Memphis at the U.S. Amateur Golf Championship this month after both finishing in the top three at the qualifier held at TPC Southwind Monday.

Fly beat out 62 other competitors with rounds of 65-70 to earn medalist honors and join the ranks of the nation's elite at the U.S. Amateur. The victory comes on the heels of a very successful junior campaign for the Tiger golfer in which he won the Conference USA Championship and broke the school record for season scoring average at 71.9 strokes per round.

Needing to finish in the top three to earn a spot in the U.S. Amateur, Lee fired a second-round 68 to place third at Southwind after carding an opening-round 72. An emerging talent as a sophomore last season, Lee had five top-20 individual finishes as one of only three Tigers to compete in all 12 events. His stroke average of 74.0 was third on the team.

The U.S. Amateur Championship will be held Aug. 22-28 at the Erin Hills and Blue Mound Golf and Country Club in Erin, Wis. The most coveted of all amateur titles, the U.S. Amateur has showcased some of golf's greatest performers over the years, including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.
