The University of Memphis athletic department, which currently has seven major building projects underway, will officially open the Frank L. Flautt Golf Center on Thursday afternoon, September 3 at 3 PM with ribbon cutting ceremonies and tours of the facility. The Flautt Center is located at the University's Park Avenue Campus at Park and Getwell.

The Flautt Center contains a 7,200 square foot, indoor practice facility for the Memphis golf teams, as well as approximately five acres of outdoor driving ranges and practice greens. The indoor practice area consists of six large hitting bays, locker rooms for both the men and women's teams, offices for coaches, equipment rooms, a computer study area and a kitchen area.

The driving range is over 420 yards in length and will allow the two squads to practice from the north and south ends of the range simultaneously. Five target greens, varying in distances from 95 yards to 185 yards, define the driving area. There are two Champion Bermuda greens and three Emerald Bermuda greens for both putting and chipping practice.

The grand opening will begin at 3 PM with a ceremonial ribbon cutting featuring University of Memphis President Dr. Shirley Raines, Mr. Flautt, Director of Athletics R.C. Johnson and Tiger head coaches Grant Robbins and Beth Harrelson. Members of the 2009-10 Tiger golf teams will be in attendance and all former Tiger golfers, area golf professionals and Tiger supporters are asked to attend.
