MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis men's golf team will compete against some of the best teams around the country, beginning Sunday with the University of Minnesota's eighth annual Gopher Invitational, Sept. 9-10, at the Spring Hill Golf Club in Wayzata, Minn. The 15-team field is the largest in history of the Spring Hill event that is designed as a par 72, 7,020-yard course.

"We are looking forward to competing this weekend," said head coach Grant Robbins. "Spring Hill is a phenomenal golf course, and this is one of the strongest fields we will face all year. It will be a great opportunity for us and we are looking forward to the challenge."

The first and second rounds of the Gopher Invitational will be played consecutively Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The final round will be played Monday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

The Tigers, along with five other teams, will make their Gopher Invitational debuts next week. Memphis will be joined by Minnesota, Iowa, Penn State, Arizona State, California, New Mexico, Oklahoma, SMU, Arkansas, North Texas, Lamar, Charlotte, Kent State and St. John's (MN). Out of the 15 teams attending, 11 advanced to the NCAA Regionals last season, while six went on to play in the NCAA Championships.

In their first tournament of the 2012-13 season, the Tigers finished third out of 13 teams last week at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate in Verona, N.Y. Memphis was led by junior Will Pearson and senior Lexus Keoninh as both shot a 215 (-1) to tie for third.

Representing the Tigers in Minnesota will be Pearson, Keoninh, sophomore Alex Hoffman, junior Grant Milner and senior Steve Lee.
