Lee's 68 Puts Tigers in First after One Round at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate
Sept. 14, 2009
Freshman Steve Lee fired a 68 in his first collegiate round to pace the Tigers in the first round of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate hosted by Southern Miss. Lee's 68 put him in a tie for 3rd individually and propelled the Tigers to the top of the leader board after round one.
Because of a rain delay earlier in the day, play had to be suspended due to darkness. The teams will finish up the second round tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. before coming back to play the third and final round at 10 a.m.
Carlson Cox, also making his collegiate debut after redshirting last season, fired an opening round 69, putting him in a tie for seventh with fellow Tiger, Jonathan Fly. Jack Belote and Brandon Bunn fired rounds of 71 and 72, respectively. This marks the first time that all five Tiger golfers have posted par or better in the same round in over two seasons.
Memphis posted a team total of 277 (-7) to take a three stroke lead over Arkansas State and UALR (280). Southeastern Louisiana (281) is four strokes back in second. The seven-under-par team total is the lowest by the Tigers this season. Round two will resume tomorrow morning. Keep up with the action via www.gotigersgo.com and www.golfstat.com.
