The University of Memphis men's golf team is in 12th after one round of play at the Mason Rudolph Championship. The tournament is being played at the Vanderbilt Legends Club with Vanderbilt as the host school.

Senior Jordan Payne set the pace for the Tigers by firing a one-over-par 72. It was an up and down round for Payne, including four birdies, one eagle, two bogeys, and two double bogeys.

"I'm pleased with Jordan's performance today. After struggling last spring, it was important for him to start off the year strong," said Tiger head coach Grant Robbins.

Payne is in 24th place, followed by fellow senior, Brad Benjamin who is in a tie for 31st after carding a two-over-par 73. Jeff Hall is in a tie for 36th after shooting 74. Mark Trow and Jack Belote are both in a tie for 59th after turning in rounds of 76.

The Tigers are in 12th shot a team total of 295 and are in a tie for 12th. However, with two rounds left to play, they are only eight shots out of the top-5.

Tiger head coach Grant Robbins looks for his team to improve and move up the leader board in the next two rounds.

"Although things could have been better today, I'm confident that we will improve as the tournament goes on," said Coach Robbins.

The Tigers will continue play tomorrow, Sept. 27th, when the Mason Rudolph Championship resumes at 8:00 a.m. (CT).
