BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Memphis men’s golf team is No. 24 in the latest Golfstat.com Rankings released Wednesday, Oct. 2. The ranking is the highest for the Tigers since 2004 when the team was No. 21.
Memphis has competed in two tournaments this fall, finishing seventh at the Columbia Regional Preview hosted by Missouri and winning the Graeme McDowell Shoal Creek Intercollegiate hosted by UAB.
Senior Will Pearson has had two strong showings to start the year. He led the Tigers in the Columbia Regional Preview, finishing tied for 15th overall. Pearson finished second for the Tigers and tied for third overall at the Graeme McDowell Shoal Creek Intercollegiate when he shot six-under-par.
Lars Van Meijel finished tied for first overall at Shoal Creek, his first tournament with the Tigers. The freshman shot a tournament best 66 in the third round, as the bogey free six-under gave him 8-under for the tournament.
The Tigers are back in action Oct. 11-13 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Johnson City, Tenn. The East Tennessee State hosted tournament will be played at the 7,147 yard, 72-par, Blackthorn Club.
