Oct. 11, 2012
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - After a two and a half week break, the Memphis men's golf team competes in its fourth tournament this fall with the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, Oct. 12-14, at the Blackthorn Club in Jonesborough, Tenn.
The Tigers will be joined by Army, No. 37 Coastal Carolina, host East Tennessee State, Furman, No. 12 Missouri, Penn State, Pepperdine, No. 31 Tennessee, UNC-Wilmington, Virginia, No. 39 Virginia Tech and No. 21 Wake Forest on the par-72, 7,147-yard course. The Tigers will begin play Friday morning and wrap up competition Sunday afternoon.
Memphis, ranked No. 62 in Golfstat's latest poll, has faced two of the teams in this week's field, falling to Missouri and defeating Army at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate to open the season. The Tigers faced Penn State at the Gopher Invitational, but the Nittany Lions were disqualified for only having three golfers compete in the second round.
Last year, the Tigers finished fifth at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate with a 54-hole score of 885 as Jonathan Fly tied for third with a 214.
Memphis is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate, led by juniors Will Pearson and Grant Milner, who both tied for eighth with an even-par 216. Pearson and Milner will be joined by seniors Lexus Keoninh and Steve Lee and sophomore Cory Gaylord, who is playing for the first time since competing in the season opener at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate as an individual.
Following the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, the Tigers will close out their fall season with the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, Oct. 19-20, at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C.
