Golfers Finish Seventh At Landfall Tradition
Nov. 5, 2003 Wilmington, NC - Release Immediately TIGERS PLACE SEVENTH AT PRESTIGIOUS LANDFALL TRADITION November 2, 2003 Led by senior David Jeans, who carded a final score of 67, the University of Memphis Tiger golf team shot a team score of even par 288 in the final round of the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, NC, and finished in seventh place. The Tigers entered the final round of competition in eighth place. The University of Minnesota won this year's team competition with a score of 851. Ohio State climbed into second place with a team total of 866. Tennessee was third with a score of 868, while host institution UNC-Wilmington was fourth at 869 and Penn State rounded out the top five with a three round total of 871. Jeans had an opening round of four over par 76 but closed with rounds of 68-67 for a five under par total of 211 to tie for third. His final round 67 tied for the fifth lowest round in Tiger history and his final 36 hole score of 135 set a new Memphis record. Justin Smith of Minnesota captured medalist honors with a score of eight under par 208. Following Jeans among the Tiger team was Richard Jones, who fired a final round one under par 75 and tied for 19th after carding a score of 219. Allan Thomas, who tied for 32nd with a 54-hole total of 223. Senior Alan Weant who came in at 228 and Clayton Ellis at 233.
