Tiger Golf Signs Two for 2010
Nov. 22, 2009
University of Memphis men’s golf coach Grant Robbins announced today that two golfers have signed to play with the Tigers in 2010. Alex Hoffman (Myersville, MD/Middletown High School) and Cory Gaylord (Collierville, TN/Houston High School) have both signed National Letters of Intent to compete at the U of M. Hoffman is one of the top prospects nationally in the class of 2010. A two time winner of the Maryland State High School Championship (2007and 2009), Hoffman is ranked 42nd in his class by Golfweek Magazine. He won the 2009 Coors Light Amateur Championship and finished second in the 2009 AJGA Junior Championship. Hoffman also posted finishes of third and fifth at the IJGT Nemocolin Woodlans Invitational and the AJGA CourseMax/Philadelphia Runner Junior Invitational, respectively. “We are very excited about Alex signing with us,” said Robbins. “He is a top-50 nationally ranked player as well as a two time state champion. He is a great competitor that has shown the ability to win. He will be a great fit in our program.” Gaylord, whose father is the high school golf coach at Houston, is a regular name in Memphis area prep golf. He won the 2008 Tennessee State AAA High School Championship after losing in a playoff in the same event in 2007. Gaylord won the 2009 Dragon Invitational, and also played varsity soccer at Houston. “Cory is an exceptional student and a great all around athlete. Like Alex, he is very competitive and has shown the ability to win. Cory has a great deal of natural talent, and I think with him now focusing solely on golf, he will quickly develop into a very solid college player.”
