"I am really pleased to add Mat to our program," said head coach Richie Grant. "He has the playing experience, the coaching experience and the personality to have a big influence. It's been a pleasure to have Mat here for the spring season and to just have a full compliment of coaches going into the season. We are already seeing the influence that he has on our players. He has experience, maturity and I am very confident that our players are going to benefit from having him as a part of our staff."

Prior to Memphis, Santoro was at Davis and Elkins College where he served as the head women's soccer coach for four seasons. Under his leadership, the Senators set school records for overall wins, conference wins, goals scored and all-conference selections.

Prior to Davis and Elkins, Santoro was an assistant coach for four years at his alma mater Rowan University in New Jersey. While at Rowan, he was the program's primary recruiter and was part of a staff that led the Profs to the Division III Final Four in 2001.

As a player at Rowan, he was named all-conference three times, all-region twice and was a member of the 1990 Division III National Championship team. Santoro played professionally in the United States for four years prior to getting into coaching.
