Shipman was one of three Tigers to start all 18 games in 1999, his first season as a Tiger. He was second on the Team in assists, with four, and had one goal on the season against Central Arkansas. Shipman was third on the team in shots, with 26, and he was always a threat from his position at center midfielder. Shipman also had two assists against Fordham in a 3-2 win.

Shipman spent the 1998 season at Christian Brothers University, where he led the team in goals, with 10, and points, with 24. He was a first-team All-Gulf South Conference selection.

Shipman spent the 1996 season at the University of Connecticut, where he scored six goals and had four assists for 16 points on the season. Shipman made 18 appearances for the Huskies, with no starts. He led Connecticut in scoring off of the bench.

Shipman prepped at Houston High School, where they captured a state championship in his senior season. He was named all-state, all-district, and all-region while at Houston, and was a member of Memphis Futbol Club?s third-place national finish in the 1998 Under 20 nationals.
