Tigers Down Billikens 3-2 in Final Exhibition Match

ST. LOUIS, MO.- The University of Memphis men's soccer team defeated Saint Louis University on the road in its final preseason match, Saturday. Three different Tigers found the net in their final tune-up before opening the season against Wisconsin on August 24.
Minutes later junior forward Mark Sherrod found the back of the net to increase the Tigers' lead. After senior Jordan Johnson launched a cross from the right flank, Sherrod headed the ball in for the score to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage over the Billikens.
Tigers newcomer Benjamin Ciosanski added to the Memphis lead in the 31st minute. The sophomore forward gathered the ball in the box and buried a shot to the far post for an unassisted goal, increasing the Memphis lead to three.
Saint Louis got on the scoreboard in the 37th minute on a goal by freshman Kalil Karl, cutting the Memphis lead to two. The Tigers led 3-1 at the end of the first half totaling five shots and one corner-kick, while Memphis goalkeeper Connor Hurley recorded three saves
In the second half, the Tigers were kept at bay offensively as the Saint Louis defense allowed only one shot in the final 45 minutes of play. The Billikens' Alex Sweetin cut the Memphis lead to one with a goal in the 69th minute, but the Tigers would hold on for the win 3-2.
