Memphis falls to Christian Brothers, 1-0
Aug. 27, 2010
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Christian Brothers University and the U of M Tigers dueled Friday night at Echles Field in the Tigers final preseason match before embarking on the 2010 season. "We used our full squad tonight, and I was pleased to see how some kids stepped up," said Memphis head coach Richie Grant. Christian Brothers came away with the 1-0 victory behind Adam Toras second-half goal. Memphis played much of the second half a man down after freshman BJ Williams earned a red card. Sophomore keeper Jordan Leedle made two saves for the Tigers, who outshot CBU 9-7. Both teams were physical throughout the match, combining for over 30 penalties, with Christian Brothers earning six yellow cards on the evening. "Both teams were physical; I had no problem with that part of the match," said Grant. "It was unfortunate to lose a player, but he deserved to go. That made the difference in the match." Memphis opens its regular season by hosting Belmont at Mike Rose Soccer Complex, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. "The first couple of games of the regular season are almost still like preseason," said Grant. "We're pleased to be opening up at home for our first two matches. Belmont's a tough, organized team like CBU so we're looking for a good start for our regular season."
