Cal State Northridge Defeats @UMTigerSoccer 4-1

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge forward Sagi Lev-Ari scored three goals in the second half to give the Matadors a 4-1 victory over Memphis on Sunday night. The Tigers (1-1-0) finished second in the 2013 Ryan Rossi Memorial Tournament.
Chandler Gagnon put Memphis ahead 1-0 with his first goal of the season in the 12th minute. The Tigers finished the game with 12 shots and four shots on goal. Cody Uzcategui made six saves in his second start in goal.
After Gagnon's goal, the Memphis defense kept the Matadors scoreless for the rest of the first half, despite facing seven shots and five shots on goal.
Early in the second half, Gagnon was sent off after receiving his second yellow card. The junior defender had picked up his first yellow card earlier in the first half. Against only 10 men, Northridge was able to break through. Lev-Ari scored his first goal in the 50th minute to tie the game at one. The junior forward scored his second goal in the 57th minute to put the Matadors ahead by a goal.
Memphis faced more trouble in the 64th after junior Fakhry Khulfan was sent off after receiving a red card. Lev-Ari scored his third goal of the match in the 72nd minute, and Northridge midfielder Yarzen Adulay capped off the Northridge scoring one minute later to give the Matadors a 4-1 advantage.
Lev-Ari scored his first three goals of the 2013 season. He led the Matadors with 15 goals last season.
Memphis next hosts the UMKC Kangaroos in the home opener on Friday night at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and admission is FREE for all fans.
- The Tigers used the same starting 11 as the group that started Friday night's season-opener against Cal State Fullerton.
- Chandler Gagnon scored his second goal in the team's last four games. He also scored against UAB on Oct. 31, 2012.
- Sagi Lev-Ari's first goal at 49:11 in the second half ended a 139:11 shutout streak for Memphis and goalie Cody Uzcategui.
