NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Six different Tigers scored goals as the University of Memphis men's soccer team improved to 4-0 with a 7-0 route of Lipscomb University, Wednesday at Lipscomb Soccer Complex in Nashville. Sophomore midfielder Reid Greenslade led the Tiger attack with his first multi-goal performance of his career.

Memphis' offensive got going early and often as freshman Daniel Ronan scored in just the ninth minute to give Memphis an early 1-0 lead. Sophomore Daniel Dobson gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute when he took a pass from Dayton O'Brien to record his second goal of the season. It did not take UM long to increase the lead to 3-0 behind the first of Greenslade's two goals. O'Brien then followed with an unassisted goal, which was his team-leading third goal of the season.

With a 4-0 lead at the break, freshman Andy Metcalf put the Tigers up 5-0 in the 65th minute with his first career goal on an assist by senior Kirk Ricketts. Greenslade tied O'Brien for the team in goals, in the 85th minute, finding the back of the net for the second time of the day on a goal assisted by senior captain Chris Schmidt. Ricketts capped the Tiger scoring at 7-0 with a goal assisted by freshman Philip Presley.

Freshman Brian Baytos made four saves in his first career shutout in goal for the Tigers a suspended Clarke Talley who received a red card in Memphis' 2-1 win over Northeastern.

Memphis is out to its since 1993 when it started the season 5-0 and won the Great Midwest Conference Tournament, finishing the season 13-9-2. The Tiger are also enjoying a six-match win streak dating back to Nov. 7, 2001 when they shutout Lipscomb 10-0. The streak is UM'S longest since the 1986-1987 seasons when they won eight consecutive matches.

 

 

The Tigers return to conference action on Saturday, Sept. 14 when they travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
