Tigers-Broncos Match Cancelled In Wake of National Tragedy
Sept. 13, 2001
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The U of M Tiger soccer team (0-2-2) has cancelled their originally scheduled non-conference match on Sunday, September 16th against the Broncos of Western Michigan, due to the national tragedy suffered on Tuesday.
Because of scheduling and travel conflicts, a later date could not be found and the game was dropped entirely from the 2001 schedule.
Memphis returns to action next weekend in search of their first win of the season, but will have to challenge the current No. 1 team in the nation in the SMU Mustangs and also league opponent TCU at the TCU Addidas Classic, before tasting victory.
The Horned Frogs are set to host the tournament which takes place in Fort Worth, Texas and will open with a match on Friday, September 21st against the Tigers who are winless at 0-2-2. From there, the U of M will savor a day's rest before turning their attention to the premier team in the nation in SMU, whom they will battle on Sunday, September 23rd at 11:30 a.m.
All games will be played at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium and are CST.
