Memphis Blanks Iona, 2-0, in ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic Opener

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- - Omar Jarun and Andy Metcalf each scored second half goals to give the University of Memphis a 2-0 men's soccer victory over Iona College in the opening round of the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic.
After a scoreless first half of action, Jarun scored his first game-winner and fourth goal of the season at the 54:45 mark of the second period off a touch pass from Metcalf. Metcalf then scored on a header at 63:43 following a pass down the right side from John Reilly.
Memphis finished with 14 shots, eight on goal, while the Gaels had five shots and one on goal.
Memphis goalkeeper, Sebastian Vecchio registered his first shutout in a Tiger uniform in the win.
"Iona made it difficult for us to attack, but Omar and Andy found a way to break them down," said Memphis haead coach Richie Grant. "Graham Gibbs and Justin Dyer also played great in the back for us."
The Tigers will face host Evansville on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m.
