No. 15 UAB Defeats @UMTigerSoccer 2-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - No. 15 UAB (7-1-1, 1-0-1) held on to defeat the Memphis Tigers (6-3-1, 1-1-0) by a score of 2-1 in a tight contest at Mike Rose Soccer Complex on Wednesday night.
Mark Sherrod scored his third goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 78th minute.
Sherrod was able to get past his man into the box and was brought down, drawing the penalty. Sherrod made Ville guess the wrong way on the penalty, shooting the ball into the bottom right corner while Ville dove left. After Sherrod's goal, Memphis put heavy pressure on the UAB defense, but could not equalize.
In the 84th minute, a cross by Hunter Danna was just out of the reach of Fakhry Khulfan, who was making a run to the near post. Sherrod got another chance four minutes later, and the senior put a header just over the crossbar.
The final chance for Memphis came with two minutes remaining, Raul Gonzalez got a cross into the box but UAB keeper Raphael Ville punched the ball away from the goal.
Memphis outshot UAB 10-1 in the second half of Tuesday's contest.
The Blazers scored twice in the first half to take a 2-0 advantage at halftime. In the 18th minute, UAB forward Rami Dajani took control of the ball in the middle of the field and drove towards the net. Dajani was able to finish nicely past a diving Cody Uzcategui.
UAB doubled the lead in the 24th minute through Freddy Ruiz. The UAB forward was able to dribble the ball past Uzcategui and score for his sixth goal of the season.
Memphis returns to action on Saturday night when they host conference foe USF. Kickoff at Mike Rose Soccer Complex is set for 7 p.m. CT and admission is FREE for all fans.
