Memphis (4-5-2) defeated UCA (6-5-0) 1-0, Tuesday, at Mike Rose Stadium to close out its non-conference schedule for 2012. Simon Estornel nailed the game winner in the 84th-minute to give Memphis the hard-fought win.

UCA fouled Memphis just outside the top-right-corner of the 18-yard-box. Estornel took the free-kick, burying the shot to the left-post to give the Tigers the 1-0 advantage. The goal was Estornel's first wearing the Blue and Gray.

Before Estornel finished the game-winner, Memphis had two opportunities earlier in the second half. Dennis Kennetz Jr. took a shot that was deflected, then booted by Benjamin Cisoanski, but his attempt went high over the crossbar.

Forward Mark Sherrod made an attempt with 11-miuntes left to play. Jordan Johnson served the ball into the 18-yard-box; Sherrod attempted a header off of the kick but missed wide.

A stagnant Tigers-offense produced 10 first-half shots with only one on goal. Shane Keely took Memphis' only shot-on-goal, Keely missed wide-left with a header inside the keeper's box in the 33rd-minute. The UCA offense faired much the same mounting only one shot in the first 45-minutes.

The Memphis defense held strong the physical match allowing only five shots total for the game, with one on goal. Tigers-goalkeeper Conor Hurly recorded one save in his third shutout of the 2012 campaign.

The Tigers return to league play against Tulsa, Saturday, at Mike Rose Stadium with kickoff set for 7 p.m. (CT). For more information on the University of Memphis men's soccer program and all Tigers-athletics please visit GoTigersGo.com.
