BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Memphis Tigers fell 1-0 to the No. 25 UAB Blazers on Wednesday night on a Dean Sorrell second half goal. The Tigers fall to 4-4-2 (1-3-0 C-USA) with the loss. UAB improves to 9-2-1 (3-0-1 C-USA) with the win.

The Memphis Tigers and UAB Blazers played to a 0-0 draw in the first period on Wednesday night in Birmingham, Ala. The Blazers had seven shots, including five shots on goal. The Tigers had two shots, with one shot on goal.

UAB had the first scoring opportunity of the night right out of the gate in the first minute when Babayele Sodade had a breakaway which resulted in a 1v1 with Memphis goalkeeper Michael Goodlett. Sodade played the shot wide right of the goal.

Memphis' first scoring chance came in the 12th minute when Jon Wright lightly played ball toward UAB goalkeeper Carl Wosczyzynski.

UAB had their second opportunity of the contest in the 18th minute when Sodade gathered the ball in the middle of the box for a shot on goal. Sodade's ball was saved by Goodlett.

Perhaps the best scoring chance for either team came in the 38th minute when Anthony King's shot hit off the calf of Goodlett.

Goodlett ended the first half with five saves. Woszczynski recorded two saves.

Memphis' first opportunity of the second period came in the 50th minute when midfielder Elias Groft possessed the ball in the box and proceeded to launch a shot wide left of the net.

UAB's first chance in the second half materialized in the 54th minute when Anthony King rocketed towards the goal. Goodlett stopped the shot for his sixth save of the match.

UAB midfielder Two-Boys Gumede had another opportunity in the 57th minute on a shot from the right side that hit the left side of the Memphis goal.

Goodlett notched his seventh save of the contest on a shot by UAB's Kevin Sawchak in the 60th minute.

Wright, a native of Tulsa, Okla., took a Parker Duncan pass and missed a solid opportunity for the Tigers that sailed left of the goal in the 65th minute of play.

UAB went ahead 1-0 in the 67th minute when Dean Sorrell obtained the ball off a Michal Mravec corner kick from the left side. The ball made its way to the right side of the goal, where the UAB defender put it past Goodlett. Sodade was also credited with an assist on the goal.

Brian Farrell attempted a Memphis shot in the 74th minute of action. The Memphis senior's shot from the left side sailed right of the net.

UAB's King had a nice opportunity develop off a Blazer free kick. King's shot went wide left of the Memphis goal in the 85th minute.

Memphis' Andras Guentner had an opportunity for the Tigers in the 88th minute. The ball sailed high of the UAB goal.

Goodlett falls to 4-4-2 with the loss on Wednesday night. The Memphis keeper gave up one goal and notched seven saves.

Woszczynski improves to 9-2-1 on the year with the win. The UAB goalkeeper picked up the shutout for the Blazers. He had one save on the contest.

The Tigers will next hit the pitch on Sat., Oct. 17 at 7 p.m., against the FIU Golden Panthers at Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis.
