Memphis (5-5-3, 1-1-2 C-USA) defeated South Carolina (4-9-2, 1-5-1 C-USA) 2-1, on Saturday. Mark Sherrodrecorded his second game-winning goal of the season as the Tigers picked up their first win in league-play.

South Carolina struck first in the waning moments of the first half. Bradeen Troyer received the ball off of a throw-in and volley finishing to the back-post to give the Gamecocks a 1-0 advantage in the 43rd-minute. Trent Rieflin and Hunter Wyer were both credited with an assist on the goal.

In the second half, Liam Collins netted the equalizer in the 60th-minute recording his first goal of the season. Collins, assisted by Adam Camillo, finished from 16-yards-out just below the crossbar to knot the game at one-all. The assist by Camillo was the freshman's second of the 2012 campaign and the first of two in the game.

Mark Sherrod scored the game-winner and his eighth goal of the season in the 64th-minute on a one-touch from Camillo, finishing from 8-yards-out. Liam Collinswas also credited with an assist on the play; the sophomore now stands alone at second all-time in the program's history with 23 assists.

The Tigers' defense held strong in the second half allowing only three shots. In the 80th-minute, the Gamecocks looked to even the score when Snoopy Davidson fired a shot-on-goal, but Memphis-goalkeeper Conor Hurleywas there for the save, his 27th of the season.

The Tigers now prepare for a two-game road trip to the Sunshine State for league matches against UCF on Wednesday, October 24, followed by FIU on Saturday, October 27.
