MEMPHIS, Tenn. - On a rainy, cold spring night, the University of Memphis men's soccer team defeated Colaiste Ide, a touring team from an Irish prep academy and the alma mater of Tiger head coach Richie Grant, on Wednesday evening at Echles Field.

Memphis jumped out to an early lead, when Justin Stralka scored off of an assist by Sean Fraser and then Fraser scored off a pass from Grant Paule. Later in the first half, midfielder Ken Matsuba scored off of a pass from Stralka, and defender Chris Schmidt closed out the half with a goal off of a feed from Lars Thorstensen. The Tigers went into the half with a 4-0 lead.

In the second half, it was a different game, however. Much as Memphis had dominated the first half, Colaiste Ide was the only team to score in the second frame. Memphis gave up two goals to the touring squad, but held them off from drawing any closer to the Tigers.

"It was a great game, played in great Irish weather," said Tiger coach Richie Grant. "Colaiste Ide played much better in the second half, and we looked very strong and fresh in the first half."

Next up for Memphis in their spring schedule is a tournament at Mike Rose Soccer Complex on Saturday, March 31. Memphis will take on Drury University at Noon and Rhodes College at 4:30 p.m.
