Men's Soccer to Host 13th Annual Tommy Smith Banquet

MEMPHIS, Tenn.-University of Memphis men's head soccer coach Richie Grant and the men's soccer program will host the 13th Annual Tommy Smith Banquet on Tuesday, April 16, in the University of Memphis Athletics Department Penny Hardaway Hall of Fame Assembly Room. Former Major League Soccer players Richard Mulrooney, Ross Paule, Carey Tally and Jonny Walker will serve as guest speakers at the event.
The event begins with a social hour at 6:30 p.m., with the dinner and program scheduled to commence at 7:30. Tickets are $25 per individual and $300 per table. A silent auction will be held featuring an autographed Real Madrid jersey, an autographed Ireland jersey and a round of golf with Richard Mulrooney and Carey Talley. Each year the men's soccer program holds the Tommy Smith Banquet, named in honor of the former Memphis great, to reflect upon the accomplishments of the season and to distribute honors and accolades earned by the student-athletes. Tommy Smith, who passed away on March 18, 2000, played in 77 games for the U of M from 1992-95, tallying 15 goals and 11 assists.
One of the awards bestowed at the banquet is the Tommy Smith Award, established to honor the player who exemplifies the characteristics demonstrated by Smith during his career, high academic standards, dedication, love of the game and sportsmanship.
