Men's Soccer Holds Annual Tommy Smith Banquet

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- The 13th Annual Tommy Smith Banquet was held by the University of Memphis men’s soccer team on Tuesday evening. Head coach Richie Grant and Major League Soccer veterans Richard Mulrooney, Ross Paule and Carey Tally spoke at the banquet, named in honor of the late Tommy Smith.
Following a panel discussion with Mulrooney, Paule and Tally, Grant distributed some of the team’s postseason honors and accolades. Junior Dennis Kennetz Jr. was presented with the final award of the evening, the 2012 Tommy Smith Spirit Award. The honor is bestowed to the Tiger who best demonstrates the attributes displayed by Smith, high academic standards, dedication, love of the game and sportsmanship.
After redshirting the 2011 season, Kennetz became fixture in the team’s starting line-up four games into the 2012 campaign proving valuable minutes at the midfield position. Double-majoring in biology and chemistry, the Cordova, Tenn., native carries a 3.45 GPA.
