Men's Soccer Releases 2013 Fall Schedule

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- The University of Memphis men's soccer team released its 2013 fall schedule, on Thursday. With Memphis' move to the American Athletic Conference, familiar foes await while old rivalries with Louisville and Cincinnati will be renewed.
The Tigers open the season on the road in California taking on CSU Fullerton on August 30 and CSU Northridge on September 1 at the Northridge Tournament. CSU Northridge is coming off its most successful season since 2005 winning the 2012 Big West Tournament Championship and advancing to the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.
Memphis will open its home schedule beginning on September 6 taking on UMKC followed by Oral Roberts University on September 8. Following the two-game home stand, the Tigers will travel to the UAB "Soccer for a Cure" Classic, where they will face ETSU on September 13 and Charlotte on September 15. In 2012, Charlotte advanced to the 2013 NCCA Tournament falling to Georgetown in the second round.
On September 21, the Tigers hit the road for their first AAC match renewing a rivalry with former conference foe Cincinnati. The match with the Bearcats marks the fourth different conference in which Memphis and Cincinnati will have met as league opponents on the soccer pitch (Metro Conference, Great Midwest Conference, Conference USA and AAC).
Memphis will round out the month of September at home, taking on Mercer on the 24th and AAC foe Rutgers on the 28th. The meeting with Rutgers will be the first between the two programs.
The Tigers open the month of October with two matches at home taking on UAB and USF. The match with UAB is set for October 2 followed by an AAC showdown with USF on October 5. The game with USF will be first meeting between the Bulls and Tigers since 2004 when they were both members of C-USA.
Memphis then hits the road for two conference matches between UCF on October 9 and UCONN on October 12. UCF, like Memphis, is making the move to the AAC from C-USA in 2013.UCONN reached the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals in 2012. The match-up with the Huskies will be the first in program history.
The Tigers will play their final non-conference match on October 16 against UCA, followed by a road trip on October 19 to new conference foe Temple. The match with Temple will be the third game on the 2013 schedule against a first-time opponent.
Memphis then completes the regular season with two conference matches against SMU on October 23 and Louisville on October 26. The match with Louisville marks the third different conference in which the Tigers and Cardinals have met as league opponents on the soccer pitch (Metro Conference, C-USA and AAC).
