MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Former Memphis men's soccer player Rick Alleman was announced as one of 12 recipients of the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship Award. Each Conference USA member institution has one athlete each year who is presented with the scholarship. The conference annually presents $4,000 in postgraduate scholarships to graduates as selected by C-USA Faculty Athletic Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.

This is the second year the award has been named for Dr. Castañeda, who served Rice University for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed away in November 2008.

Alleman, a four-year letterwinner for Coach Richie Grant's Memphis men's soccer squad, was a staple in the back four for the Tigers during his career. Alleman had a stellar senior season, moving back to the center back position, where as team captain he anchored the Memphis defense. The Spring, Texas, natives efforts as a senior earned him placement on the All-C-USA second team.

Academically, Alleman picked up C-USA Academic Honor Roll and Dean's List recognition. He was also selected to the C-USA All-Academic team in the fall of 2009. Alleman plans to continue his education at the University of Memphis in Exercise and Sport Science.
