Wil Linder, Chattanooga FC Vying For NPSL Title Saturday

HARRISON, N.J. – When University of Memphis men’s soccer senior Wil Linder reports to the team’s preseason drills Aug. 13, he may bring a little extra hardware with him. On Saturday (Aug. 2), Linder’s Chattanooga FC squad will meet the Red Bulls New York (RBNY) U23 for the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) crown.
The NPSL title match is scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. (CT) kickoff from Red Bull Arena. The championship match, which will follow the New York Red Bulls-New England Revolution MLS regular-season encounter, will be live-streamed on www.newyorkredbulls.com.
Linder and his Chattanooga FC teammates advanced to the NPSL final with a 4-1 victory over the Sacramento Gold before an organization-record crowd of 8,788 fans July 26. Chattanooga FC brings a 13-2-2 overall record, including a 10-match win streak, into Saturday’s final. A week earlier (July 19), Chattanooga FC won the NPSL South Regional title with a 2-0 victory over Tulsa Athletics.
Chattanooga FC is attempting to win its first NPSL title in three attempts Saturday night in New Jersey. Chattanooga FC was the NPSL runner-up in 2010 and 2012.
Linder, who plays midfield for Chattanooga FC, is in his second season with the organization.
When the Tigers kick off their 2014 regular season Aug. 29, Linder will be one of four seniors on the 23-man roster. The Tigers midfielder has played in 52 career games and made 26 starts. For his career, the Nashville, Tenn., native has scored 12 points on four goals and four assists.
