Expectations Building for Men's Soccer

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - BennettRank, a service that ranks men's and women's soccer teams in each NCAA division, placed the Memphis Tigers Men's Soccer team at No. 23 in their 2013 preseason poll, the organization announced Wednesday.

Coach Richie Grant and his team will face strong competition throughout the 2013 season. The Tigers play seven teams ranked in the top 25 in the BennettRank poll. The Tigers play an exhibition match at No. 9 Tulsa (Aug. 22), play at No. 22 Cal State Northridge to open the regular season (Sept. 1), and play No. 15 UAB at Mike Rose Stadium (Oct. 2).

As a new member of the American Athletic Conference, the Tigers begin play in one of the strongest soccer conferences in the country. Memphis plays at No. 10 Connecticut (Oct. 12), and will host No. 24 South Florida (Oct. 5), No. 18 SMU (Oct. 23) and No. 12 Louisville (Oct. 26) at Mike Rose Stadium.

The Tigers open the exhibition season at home on Friday, Aug. 17 against Saint Louis. The 1993 Memphis Tigers, champions of the Great Midwest Conference, will be honored before the game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at Mike Rose Stadium. Admission is free.
