Men's Soccer Begins Preseason Camp on the Road

MEMPHIS, TENN.- Preseason training camp is underway for the University of Memphis men's soccer team, but not at their training facility. For the first time under head coach Richie Grant the team decided to open camp on the road, choosing the Alabama Gulf Coast to kick-start the 2012 season.

Memphis returns 26 letter winners and eight starters from a 2011 squad that finished 11-6-1 overall and 4-4-0 in Conference USA play. In the returning mix are team captain Andreas Guentner (defender), 2011 C-USA Player of the Year and Offensive player of the year Mark Sherrod (forward), and 2011 All-C-USA selections Liam Collins (midfielder), J.J. Greer (defender) and Conor Hurley (goalkeeper).

The Tigers will train for two days in Orange Beach, Ala. before heading to Mobile, Ala. for their first preseason game against the University of Mobile on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. The Tigers will hit the road for one more preseason match at St. Louis University on August 18 before they open the season against Wisconsin at home on August 24.
