Aug. 11, 2011
MEMPHIS - The Tiger men's soccer team will play at SMU on August 21 at noon and will face Botafogo F.R. at Mike Rose Soccer Stadium on August 24 at 7 p.m. CST in two exhibition games prior to the start of the soccer season.
Conference USA foe SMU, whom the Tigers face in the regular-season finale on November 4th, is ranked fifth in the NSCAA Pre-Season Poll. SMU was also tabbed by the coaches as the favorite to take home the C-USA crown this year.
Botafogo is a professional soccer club out of Brazil that comes to the States each year to play several friendlies. This is the second consecutive year in which Memphis has faced Botafogo in an exhibition match.
On Saturday, August 13, the men's team is slated to play former U of M players at Mike Rose Stadium at 7 p.m. The game is part of the men's soccer program's Alumni Soccer Weekend.
Memphis opens the regular season on August 28 with a 7 p.m. CST match-up against Lipscomb. The Tigers are undefeated (5-0) against the Bisons and will be meeting for the first time since the 2004 season, a meeting which Memphis won 6-0.
