PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Memphis Tigers were picked to finish sixth in the American Athletic Conference in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the conference announced Monday. Seniors Liam Collins and Mark Sherrod were also All-Conference Preseason Team selections.

After finishing the 2012 season with an 8-7-3 record, the Tigers return eight starters and 17 letterwinners for the 2013 season. Memphis was one of four schools with multiple players selected to the All-Conference Preseason Team.

Collins was a two-time All-Conference USA First Team selection, and enters his senior season second in program history in assists with 24.

Sherrod was the Conference USA Player of the Year in 2011, and was the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year in 2011 and 2012. He was also named to the NSCAA All-America Third Team in 2011. Sherrod currently ranks second in school history in goals scored with 35, and is tied for sixth in points with 80.

Connecticut was picked to win the conference in its inaugural season, followed by Louisville, USF, SMU, Rutgers and Memphis. UCF, Cincinnati and Temple rounded out the poll.

Memphis travels to Tulsa for their final exhibition match Thursday night against the Golden Hurricane. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium.
