MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men’s soccer team goes through its final tune-up for the 2014 season when the Tigers host Christian Brothers in an exhibition match Saturday. Match time is 7 p.m. (CT) at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Collierville.
The two Bluff City-based schools last met in the 2009 exhibition season, with Memphis posting a 3-0 victory over the Buccaneers at Echles Field.
Saturday’s exhibition is the Tigers’ second in less than a week. Memphis traveled to Louisville, Ky., Aug. 18 and dropped a 4-1 decision to the No. 14 nationally-ranked Cardinals. Six underclassmen, including four freshmen, started for the Tigers in the exhibition at Louisville. Sophomore Kenneth Kauker netted Memphis’ lone goal in the contest.
Following Saturday’s exhibition, Memphis returns to action with its regular-season opener at former conference rival UAB Aug. 29. Match time for the non-conference encounter in Birmingham, Ala., is 7 p.m. (CT).
The Tigers host their home opener Sept. 3 against SIU-Edwardsville. On Sept. 6, Memphis hosts Saint Louis as part of its 2014 Alumni Weekend. During that weekend, the Tigers will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their 2004 Conference USA regular-season and tournament championships. Both matches – Sept. 3 and 6 – are slated for 7 p.m. (CT) kick-offs.
