Chandler Gagnon Receives TSWA Weekly Honors
Sept. 11, 2012
MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Tigers-sophomore Chandler Gagnon was named Men's Soccer Player of the Week by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) on Tuesday. The announcement marks the first time the TSWA has awarded the honor to a Memphis men's player.
Last week, Gagnon recorded the Golden Goal against Belmont in the 106th-minute with a spectacular bicycle-kick to secure the Memphis victory. It was the defender's second game-winning goal for his career.
On Sunday, the Memphis, Tenn., native recorded his second goal of the week in the Tigers' 2-2 draw with No. 23 Furman. The sophomore currently leads Memphis in goals (3) and points (6).
In 2011, Gagnon started every game as a defender for the Tigers racking up two goals on 17 shots, with one assist as a freshman. This past summer, Gagnon earned a roster spot on the Columbus Crew's U-20 amateur team that won the 2012 McGuire Cup at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships Series.
Memphis returns to action this weekend at the UAB Soccer for a Cure Classic taking on No. 21 Washington on Friday at 4:30 p.m. (CT) and Fairleigh Dickinson University on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. (CT).
