MEMPHIS, Tenn.- After a week in which he scored two goals and two assists in three games, College Soccer News honored University of Memphis midfielder Kevin Walsh by naming the junior to its latest National Team of the Week. CSN also honored the Tigers by ranking them No. 29 in their latest Top 30 weekly poll.

Walsh has recorded a goal or an assist in five straight games and seven of the team's first eight. Memphis is undefeated in matches where Walsh enters the scoring column. This past week, the Shrule, Ireland, native helped lead Memphis to a 3-0-0 record. Walsh notched an assist on a goal by Brian Farrell to give the Tigers a 2-0 win over Central Arkansas on Tuesday night.

Walsh then struck for the Tigers on Friday night against Air Force. His goal off a free kick from the top of the box helped stop an Air Force rally and give the Tigers a 3-1 win.

The midfielder's best game of the week came on a Sunday morning match against Denver. Walsh scored the Tigers' first goal of the match and then assisted on the game-winner by sophomore midfielder Tripp Harkins as the Tigers defeated the Pioneers 2-1.

Walsh, who transferred from Christian Brothers University last semester, has provided some of the scoring punch the Tigers needed after Memphis soccer alumni Andy Metcalf and Dayton O'Brien graduated and joined the professional ranks.

Walsh has helped Memphis to a 7-1-0 start. Since losing to Clemson, which is ranked in the top three in all four national polls, the Tigers have gone 5-0-0. CSN took notice and ranked the Tigers No. 29 in their latest Top 30 poll. After being ranked No. 25 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America last week, the Tigers are now ranked in two of the four main national polls.

The Tigers will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 24, when they head east to South Carolina to take on the 2005 Conference USA Tournament champion Gamecocks. Memphis has won four straight games on the road, which ties a school record set in 1996-97 and again in 2004.
