Walsh Named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week
Sept. 18, 2006
MEMPHIS, Tenn.- University of Memphis junior midfielder Kevin Walsh was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week for his performance last week. Walsh, who transferred to Memphis from Christian Brothers last semester, picked up the Tigers' first weekly conference honor of 2006.
Walsh, a native of Shrule, Ireland, has been a reliable offensive force for the Tigers this season. The midfielder scored two goals and two assists in three games last week, helping Memphis to a 3-0-0 record and stretching the Tigers' road winning streak to four games, tying a school record.
Walsh has recorded a point in five straight games and all seven of the Tigers' wins. The only time Walsh was shut out of the scoring column came in a 2-0 loss to Clemson.
"He's been consistent, there's no doubt about that," head coach Richie Grant said. "his contribution to the team has been excellent. He's been scoring important goals and when he's not scoring, he's setting up goals. Kevin's off to a great start and I hope it continues through conference play."
The Tigers return to action when they open the C-USA season on Sept. 24 at South Carolina.
