The Memphis men's soccer team defeated the Missouri State Bears, 2-0, at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex on Wednesday night. The Tigers move their record to 2-6-0 on the season. The Bears are now 1-4-3 on the year.

"It is great to be back home and get the win," said Head Coach Richie Grant. "I was pleased to get the win and pleased to get the shutout. Those are two things we have not been doing in awhile, scoring and keeping clean sheets. We accomplished that tonight. It is one game at a time. I thought we were good tonight and it should help. The next game is a massive game for us against UAB."

Memphis got on the board when Ryan Ruble put the ball past Missouri State goalie Alex Riggs in the 16th minute of the contest off of a serve from beyond midfield by Thomas Hyland that found Sean Goulding who crossed the ball into the box to Ruble. The goal is Ruble's second on the season.

Memphis moved the score to 2-0 in the 55th minute of the game when Brian Farrell took an assist from the left side and shot it past Riggs. The goal is Farrell's third goal of the season.

Memphis goalie Michael Goodlett had six saves in the game and picked up the win and his first shutout of the year. Riggs, the Bears' goalie received the loss and moves to 1-4-3 on the year.

The Tigers had 11 shots in the game, while the Bears took nine shots. Memphis also had 14 corner kicks to Missouri State's nine. Sean Goulding had his first two assists of the season in the game. Goulding was the Tigers' assist leader last season with six.

The win is Memphis' first since they defeated Oral Roberts, 4-3, in the second game of the Memphis Diadora Tournament.

Memphis will next take the pitch on Sat., Sept. 27, when they face conference foe UAB at 7 p.m. at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
