Michael Coburn, a senior men's soccer player from Dundalk, Ireland, is our Player Spotlight for the week of Oct. 6. The defender was named Conference USA's Offensive Player of the Week following his game winning goal against to cattapult Memphis past No. 15 SMU for their first defeat of the Mustangs in six tries. The game winning goal for Coburn came off of a Sean Goulding assist off of a free kick from the right side. The goal was Coburn's first of the 2008 season and the seventh of his career.
Coburn was moved from fullback to center midfielder at the end of the first half to help control the middle of the field for the Memphis Tigers. Coburn had four shots including three shots on goal. Before moving to center midfielder, Coburn cleared several balls from the goal box as a defender.
