PHILADELPHIA - The University of Memphis men's soccer team travels to Philadelphia for a conference match against the Temple Owls (7-3-3, 0-1-3) on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers hold an 8-5-1 overall record and a 2-3-0 mark in American athletic conference play. Memphis is coming off of a 2-1 victory over UCA at home on Wednesday. UCA led for most of the match, but Mark Sherrod scored in the 85th minute, and Fakhry Khulfan scored 27 seconds into overtime for the Memphis victory.
Through 13 games, the senior trio of Shane Keely, Sherrod and Liam Collins lead Memphis with 10 points each. Sherrod and Keely are tied for the team lead with four goals each, and Collins leads the team in assists with eight.
Memphis and Temple are in a tight race in the American Athletic Conference. Louisville is in the best shape in the legue with a 4-0 conference record and 12 points. UConn is second with nine points, followed by UCF and SMU (seven points), Memphis and Rutgers (six points), USF (five points) and Temple (three points). Cincinnati rounds out the conference table with an 0-5 mark in league play.
Sophomore forward Jared Martinelli leads the Owls in goals (5), assists (4) and points (14). Junior goalkeeper Dan Scheck has seven shutouts, and has been named the American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week twice this season. Temple is 5-0-2 at home so far this season.
Kickoff at Ambler Sports Complex in Philadelphi is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT on Saturday afternoon.
