MEMPHIS, Tenn. -
Memphis sophomore forward Parker Duncan, a native of Johnson City, Tenn., was named ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV first team on Thursday afternoon according to the College Sports Information Director's of America.
Duncan has maintained a 3.99 GPA while majoring in Biology over his two semesters at the University of Memphis. Duncan is one of 11 players named to the first team in District IV. Duncan is now eligible for selection to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America team, which will be announced on Wed., Nov. 18.
"It is not surprising that Parker is receiving awards for his efforts in academics," said Memphis head coach Richie Grant. "One of the things that we are particularly pleased about with this team is their focus on their academics. It makes our job as coaches a little easier."
Off the field, Duncan has been awarded the C-USA Commisioner's Academic Medal for maintaining a GPA over 3.75 for the 2008-09 school year. Duncan was also named to the C-USA Commisioner's Honor Roll last season for maintaining a GPA over 3.00.
On the field, Duncan is currently Memphis' leading scorer with four goals and three assists. He has 11 points on the season. The Memphis sophomore was named to the All-C-USA third team as a freshman after scoring six goals and tallying one assist. Duncan was also selected to the C-USA All-Freshman team for his contributions during the 2008 season. Duncan led the Tigers in points with 13 as a freshman.
